Reporting directly to the Program Director, Jazz and the Deputy Director for Programs, the Program Assistant is responsible for assisting in implementing the South Arts program, ‘Jazz Road,’ and other programming including, but not limited to, grants, research, convenings, services and activities in all art forms.
Duties and Responsibilities:
This is a new position within the organization, funded for three years.
This position will primarily support the creation and implementation of a jazz tours and residencies-focused national program for individual jazz artists. Program elements include identifying emerging and mid-career jazz artists, and connecting them with traditional and alternative presenters throughout the US for tour and residency projects. The position will also assist with programmatic activities for both individual artists and organizations.
The position’s responsibilities include communications, data management, grants management, travel planning, research and customer service. Qualifications: Education: Bachelor’s Degree in arts administration and/or jazz studies preferred; or equivalent experience in a relevant field.

Minimum of one year’s experience in arts administration and/or music presenting or touring required. Knowledge of or passion for the current jazz ecosystem — artists, presenters, agents, and media — preferred.

- Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
- Ability to establish priorities and manage numerous assignments simultaneously
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office (particularly Outlook, Word, and Excel)
